Lawrence’s Blue Star Banners

Retirement of Banner

The Blue Star Banner program was initiated by the City of Lawrence in 2009 and the first 8 banners went up on 56th Street in January of 2010.  Since that time, we have had over 100 banners placed around the fort-area of the City recognizing we are the hometown to brave men and women in uniform, who have volunteered to put their normal lives on hold in order to serve their nation and protect its freedoms.  It has been an honor for the City of Lawrence to proudly display their names for their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way for all of us.

The criteria for a Blue Star Banner is as follows:

  • Residents of the city who are currently serving in the military
  • Close relatives currently serving in the military of city residents
  • Close relatives of business owners in the City of Lawrence who are currently serving in the military
  • All banner recipients must be service members stationed outside of the State of Indiana, either overseas or domestically
  • Upon separation from the service or by personal request, the Blue Star Banner will be retired to the service member

The cost of this program is currently underwritten by fundraising and private donations and is of no cost to the service member or their family.  Please visit our sponsorship page for more details.

For more information or if you would like to submit the name of a service member who is currently serving his/her country and who meets the criteria listed above, please call Candy Davis at 317/850-7636 or email her at lawrencebluestarbanners@gmail.com  or use the link provided for the Participation Application form.
